Psalm 23:5 King James Version (KJV)
" Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies "
Sometimes in music, there are dry spells. During a season in which most Hip Hop music has lost much of its purity & authenticity, this album was created specifically for those in need of hardcore Hip Hop...in it's purest form.
We are in a time period within both music & world history where the need and demand for new voices is at an all time high. The artists say it, magazines say it, journalists say it, politicians say it, but when asked who are the new voices, no one seems to know. The billions of dollars up for grab every year and the prize of increasing fan base has sent many of our artists to put on some blackface and forget about the message. With the rise of Youtube sensations and platinum ring tones, it's become increasingly hard to find Hip Hop with some meaning.
This album is a follow up to our 2015 release, Coming From The Bottom. It was originally a part of a trilogy of albums we planned on releasing back to back in 2015 but they were held back to make way for the release of our long awaited follow up to The Shape Of Hip Hop To Come. Considering the timing, it made more sense to release The T.A.B.L.E.
at the beginning of 2016.
This album was inspired by and created in response to the 2014 PRhyme album by DJ Premier & Royce Da 5'9. When I heard that album, I was inspired to compose the music for this album. The PRhyme album was the first straight up no chaser HIP HOP album I'd heard in a long time, and it was also one of the few albums I'd heard that are what we call a straight thru joint....albums you can listen to without skipping songs. We hope this is one of those albums.
The album was made very simple. The songs were not mastered. They are presented in raw form to keep the soul inside and to preserve the integrity of the recording and the feeling that inspired it.
There's meaning in everything, even down to the album cover. Look closely, and use your mind. The photo was taken in the Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn NY on a macbook pro with my sister in art, Celia Faussart, one half of the mighty Les Nubians, after a recording session for The Promise. She sang on the chorus and also laid these amazing ad-libs that can be heard toward the end of that track. My longtime sister, fellow musician & collaborator Deborah Bond can also be heard singing her beautiful heart out on that track. Celia was also kind enough to pose as the model for our record cover! Go Blue Nef!
( MERCI MES SOEURS! Queen Helene love you! )
At the end of the album, you hear my nephew, niece, and eldest daughter closing the record. I believe the children are our future. Straight up.
This album is about what we bring to the table of Hip Hop culture.
This album is about MCing....spittin over hard beats. This album is about beats....hard soulful funky boom bap shit. The title doesn't stand for anything. We did that simply to get the listeners attention. Enjoy. We'll be at you in a few months with another album. The campaign won't stop.
